How can birds sit on power lines without getting electrocuted? By Tino

Have you ever wondered how a bird can sit on a power line or why it does? If you read this explanation you’re sure to learn more about electricity.

ELECTRICITY

Electricity is when one electron and two neutrons collide forming one volt. Here is our question, how come birds can sit on a power line without getting electrocuted?
Well, the bird sits on the cable and it is currently not making a circuit but if it were to touch another cable it will get electrocuted, because it would be making a circuit and that’s the true story behind why a bird can sit on a power line.

CIRCUITS

Electricity can’t flow without a circuit. If you touch a power line without touching the ground you won’t get electrocuted but if you were to touch the ground you would get electrocuted because you made a circuit. This is the same with birds. If they touch another cable they will get electrocuted because they made a circuit.

In conclusion, I hope this explanation has taught you more about electricity and why birds don’t always get electrocuted on power lines.
