Learning
Here is a gifpal explaining how I feel about learning!
Mr Pampalone and I are at the North Island Gafe Summit in Auckland learning lots!
Today, I learnt how to make a gifpal in Chrome. It's an extension you can use.
I hope you are having a fantastic holiday.

The Dumbo Octopus by Tauvaga
The best feature of my report was getting to type it all up and put it together. The difficult part was choosing amazing backgrounds.
I learnt that warming by your self isn't as each as you would think. I also learnt that the dumbo octopus chokes it's prey and swallows it whole.
My next step is to check my spelling and capitals and then my report would be even more awesome!
The Emperor Penguin by Sophie C
The best feature of my report is the introduction because it makes you want to read more.
I learnt what Emperor Penguins threats are because I really wanted to know what their threats were.
My next step is to make longer paragraph because I don't think mine are long enough.
I will do tho by doing more specific research, adding a fact and then an explanation.

Milly's Report on the Leafy Sea Dragon
I like my adaptions page and my threats page.
I learnt that there are lots of under water species and also that there are lots of things that the leafy sea dragon eats.
My next step is to have an index page to organise my information better.
Thanks for reading,
Milly.

Our Inquiry Expo
During week 10, I set the children an Inquiry challenge. Choose something that you have learnt this term, and create learning tasks around this learning. You are going to be the teacher, and then...you will teach your fantastic learning to Room 8 during the last week of school.
WOW...
We had the most amazing learning tasks.
We taught Room 8 about different types of water, infiltration, run-offs, water catchments, the water cycle, water choices and lots, lots more! The children prepared quizzes, worksheets, hands-on learning games, presentations and the list goes on. Some children got to leave with a 3D snowflake or a succulent to take home and look after. And this is just a small part on what was on offer. Go Room 9, I'm very proud of you all for working so hard!
I took lots of photos and turned this into a flipagram - enjoy watching.
Below is some feedback and feedforward from Room 8. We have been learning how to give feedback (Something you did really well) and feedforward (the next step, or highlighting and area to work on) in class. Giving each other feedback and feedforward helps us learn.

Hi Room 9,
Thank you so, so much for a fantastic afternoon of amazing learning! We wanted to give you some feedback.
Some things you did well…
- You created a really cool game and had great questions.
- You were teaching us really interesting things!
- Free plants!
- We liked how some groups had quizzes.
Some things you could improve on:
- Some people could explain things a little more clearly.
- Some of the stations could have had more to do.
- Some of the lessons could have been longer.
You’re unstoppable!

Eliana's report on the Flower Hat Jellyfish
The best feature of my report was my spelling.
I learnt that the flower hat jellyfish's babies come out of their mouths.
My next step is to add a bit more information.
By Eliana.
(Miss Matich is very proud of Eliana for using Haiku deck and becoming an expert at a new publishing tool)

The Manatee by Grace
The best feature of my report was the Q&A page. I also think the introduction is very well written. I learnt a lot about Manatees! My favourite fact is: Manatees eat 50% of their bodyweight!
I think my next step would be having an adaptions page and also some more diagrams instead of pictures. I would also like to add some more photos.

The Moon Jellyfish by Al Fox
The best feature of my report is the history page because it had a fact about moon jellyfish being around longer than dinosaurs. I learnt absolutely everything that was in my report. My next step is to add more information to the pages I already have.
By Al Fox.

The Amazing Humpback Whale by Jorden
I think the best feature of my report is the detail because the teacher really liked the detail I put in.
I learnt that a humpback whale is very cool to learn about. Humpback whales have become my favourite animal.
My next step is to work faster because sometimes I was pretty slow.
Enjoy,
By Jorden.
Red Rocks
Yesterday, I went on a journey out to Red Rocks, nearly Island bay in Wellington.
Check out all the examples of water shaping the cliffs and ground that I found. (Erosion)
Have you seen the power of water yet?
If so, where?
Some explanation from the National Geographic:
Erosion is the act in which earth is worn away, often by water, wind, or ice. A similar process, weathering, breaks down ordissolves rock, weakening it or turning it into tiny fragments. No rock is hard enough to resist the forces of weathering and erosion. Together, they shaped the sharp peaks of theHimalaya Mountains in Asia and sculpted the spectacularforest of rock towers of Bryce Canyon, in the U.S. state of Utah.
The process of erosion moves bits of rock or soil from one place to another. Most erosion is performed by water, wind, or ice (usually in the form of a glacier). These forces carry the rocks and soil from the places where they were weathered. If water is muddy, it is a sign that erosion is taking place. The brown color indicates that bits of rock and soil are suspended in the water and being transported from one place to another. This transported material is called sediment.
When wind or water slows down, or ice melts, sediment is deposited in a new location. As the sediment builds up, it creates fertile land. River deltas are made almost entirely of sediment. Delta sediment is eroded from the banks and bed of the river.

Max's Report on the Liopleurodon
The best feature of my report was researching the information because I love learning about new things, it's really fun.
I learnt everything in my report. I'm really happy about what I learnt.
My next step is to focus on typing faster.

Zena's Report on the Beluga Whale
The best feature of my report is my habitat page because I forgot to do one and I made up three paragraphs when I was up to typing and putting my report together. (This shows I know my information says Miss Matich)
I learnt lots about the Beluga and their characteristics. Did you know that they have been found carrying objects on their backs?
My next step is to find a few websites and encourage people to donate to them. I also want to think about how I could use this information in a speech.

Wild Wellington Weather
On Tuesday and Wednesday this week, we learnt about Erosion, Deforestation and how water has the ability to shape the Earth. We also made aquifers because we know that our water comes from the Waiwhetu Aquifer.
Using some donated tools from Benedicts (Thanks Mike), we made the Maungaraki and Normandale hills. We did a water simulation and learnt all about floods, and torrential rain. It just so happens we then got hit with a storm and spme of this actually happened to some houses in Wellington.
Check out our photos ...
Our Aquifers...
Our simulation of our 'fake' storm - learning about erosion and how water can shape the Earth.

Some more reflection wordles....
Click on them to make them larger and read about all of our learning. I like Wordles because they really show how different everyone's learning can be.
