On one sweltering hot Friday, 103 lovely learners took the bus to Island Bay!
I felt a little bit anxious becayse I haven't visited there for 7 years. We were half an hour late but that did not faze us in the slightest.
I loved Island Bay!
Climbing over the rocksmade me feel as free as a sea cucumber.Running my hands over Crabs,Starfish and other marine creatures! Each creature had a different texture, One was hard like a nail, others were as soft as a pillow. It was amazing! Liz taught us a lot about marine life in the Rocky Shore!
Next we walked over to the beach where Allen was waiting patiently for us.
Splish! Splosh! Splash!
The waves were running over the beach like a toddler falling. I nudge sophie in the ribs excitedly and say: "It's so hot! I cant wait to hear what Allen will say!"
I quickly pull mum over to stand next to me. I give her a quick hug and turn my attention towards Allen.
"Remember boys and girls, This is touch Gently" Jules reminded us for the hundredth time. I put my hands in and almost instantly pull my hand out again with a Brittle star. I look up and relise that I was the only person at the tank. every other child was standing by the shark tank, watching Jules feed the sharks. I ran over to catch the shark swallowing!
Afterwards We lined up and went to Shoreland park to finally meet our pen pals. I started talking to my buddy, Jaymie and i noticed we both had blue eyes and slightly curly hair! It was a perfect day!
Overall I found that experience fascinating! I have learnt all about marine life, I am very privileged to be able to go on field trips like Island Bay!

On Friday the 4th of April, 103 excited children set off for a wild adventure to Island bay aquarium and marine reserve.
Our first adventure was to meet Jules, Liz and Allen at the marine centre. Then we went to rocky shore with Liz. My favourite part of the rocky shore was sticking my finger in the sea anemone because it tried to sting me and inject poison into me but i'm too big!

Afterwards, we went to the beach with Allen. I thought it was boring beacuse we weren't allowed to touch anything like the sand. But, when we got to explore the beach, that was fun.
After that we went to the aquarium with Jules. I thought it was the the most exciting place of the day. We got to play in the touch gently tank that was AWSOME. When Jules feed the sharks the lobsters came out and had a fight over the food like a five year old child in a take as much candy as you want shop.
At the end of the day I decided that the best part it was one of the best trips I've been too.

We were excited to go to Island Bay on Friday, even though we were late. On the bus it was hot , squishy and stuffy. When we finally got there I recognised this place. We were led to a tall house and we walked up the stairs and into a bach looking hall leading to a wooden room with chairs and glass windows. We all sat down and a few minutes later we knew all the owner's names and what groups we were going to.
First off, we went to the rocky shore with Liz. We had to find lots of little creatures in groups on the rocks. Our group found lots of crabs and a tiny sea anenome that looked like a daisy that we recognised as the White Striped Anenome.
Then, we went to the beach. We learnt lots about plankton and seaweed. Did you know seaweed uses little balls of air to float? Also there were tiny sandhoppers jumping around in the sand at our feet.
I also know where Katipo live now which is good because i'm so scared of spiders and these ones are poisoness so it was double good! (Also double scary!)
Finally, we went to the aquarium with Jules. It was probably my favourite part. There was a touch gently pool and I picked up a hermit crab, several starfish and also several weird sea anenomes that feel really light, you can just feel them. Then I saw an octopus with loads of little eggs! She was kind of running through her babies with her tentacles. I wonder why?
Then, it was time to go. We got on our way to the park where we were pretty late but we didn't mind. Then we reached the park to meet all our penpals. My penpal, Ashton looks a lot like my brother Eli but older. He was really friendly so I guess that was good. Then they had to go so we played on the playground and had out lunch. That's when I felt tired, I tried to have a sleep on the bus but I couldn't do it.
I guess I was very tired after a long, awesome day.
My favourite part was sleeping at home and the touch pool. I can't wait until the next trip!
