Our Trip to Paremata (Parliament)

Our new learning:
- David Carter is the Speaker of the house. He is the landlord of parliament and the only person that can sleep there.
- The Beehive is 10 stories tall.
- The Mace is 140cm long as is made of real gold and silver. It's currently worth $500,000.
- Helen Clark is New Zealand's first elected female prime minister.
- Parliament is made up of 4 main buildings. It's made from marble and there is real gold painted on top of some of the inside roof.
- The election is being held on the 20th of September.
- The Speaker is like the referee.
- When you speak to John Key, you must use Prime Minister or Sir to address him.
- Parliament has 60 librarians. They have enough book shelving to hold books from Wellington to Paekakariki.
- Richard John Seddon the the Prime Minister for 13 years. There is a statue of him outside of Parliament.
- Parliament was build the same time the Titanic was built.
- Everything said in parliament is typed or recorded. Can you imagine if this was your job?

AND...
- Out of 29 children who came to Parliament today, 22 are considering a job at parliament.
