Persuasive hooks

Today we continued on our learning of persuasive writing. We learnt about how to start your persuasive speech and writing.

To do this you need to start with a really capturing hook. There are many, many types of hooks.

Overall we got ten.

• Questioning hook: Ask a question that will leave the audience thinking.
• Joke hook: Tell a joke surrounding your topic.
• Entertaining/Rap/Drama hook: Heat things up a bit, add a little drama or entertain by a rap.
• Shock hook: State a shocking fact. Make the audience gasp!
• Information hook: Add some statistics in there.
• Imagination hook: Make the audience visualise your point of view starting with Imagine if...      You could turn this into a positive, or a negative, your choice!
• Story hook: Begin with a story, once upon a time or make it about you! e.g This one time, I was so close to drowning.
• Jargon (Language) Hook: Use words that relate or make you thing about the topic. e.g The topic is global warming, heat, greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, floods, drouts, O-Zone layer, habitat destruction. Does that seem familiar to you? Global Warming is the word.
• Quote hook: Use a quote from maybe a celebrity, a familiar person to some people. 
• Games/Interactive hook: Start off with a Kahoot, or maybe twitter?
