Kiaora koutou,
Yesterday, we estimated how many meters it would take to walk to Benedicts.
And then we actually figured it out! It’s approximately 215m.
By the end of year 6, children must have an idea of how far a kilometre is.
This is a tricky idea!
It would be a great idea to use the odometer in your car this weekend if you are driving anywhere to talk about how far you are travelling.
It’s always a good option to make an estimate first.
Next week, we will be continuing with measurement and report writing. We will be continuing to skim and scan for important information and summarise main ideas.
We’ve had a great afternoon looking at interesting sea creatures and brainstorming information report ideas!
Enjoy measuring,
Have a safe and happy weekend,
Miss Matich
Here are some of our learning photos from this week! They feature some of our buddies, some discovery group time, measurement and Inquiry learning.
Enjoy!
Wow! I loved this week Miss Matich I love My class! :) By Grace
ReplyDeleteSo if it's 215m to Benedicts ... I wonder how many times you would have to walk there and back before you have walked a km? I'm walking to the Belmont Trig on Tuesday with Totara Team, are there any unstoppable Ruma Iwa learners that want to estimate how far that will be? (I might remember to tweet my answer from the top!)
