How can birds sit on power
lines?
Have you ever seen a bird sit
on a power line? Did you think, how could it sit there? Because if that was you
sitting there, you would get electrocuted.
Birds don’t get electrocuted
because when they are sitting on a power line, they aren’t making a full
circuit. A circuit is like two wires, one end of each wire connected to a
battery, the other ends of the wires on a light, that is a complete circuit.
This is like a bird sitting on a power line with both legs on the power line
and a wing on another, which would complete the circuit and shock them.
A circuit needs electricity to
go through it, like a power line. Electricity powers lights, TV’s, computers,
fans and heaps more. You use at least 10 hours of electricity a day.
Electricity comes from solar energy, Fossil fuels, Wind, natural gases, oil,
nuclear reactors, geothermal and heat energy, and water. Electricity does this
by travelling through power lines that birds find themselves perching on
without getting shocked.
Now you know why birds can
sit on power lines without getting electrocuted, and a main word you need to
know is circuits.
