Mammals

We have been learning about classifying animals. We made some posters all about mammals with Mr Kay last week. A mammal is one type of classification that scientists use. Come into Room 9 to check our posters out.

Interesting facts about mammals:
-     A platypus lays eggs even though it’s a mammal.
-     Male Platypus’s are venomous.
-     A common wombat baby weighs 1 gram, which is the same as two peanuts.
-     Wolf pups are born blind and deaf. They are also born with blue eyes but they change.
-     Koalas use to be killed for food in Australia.
-     A bat can have babies from 1 years of age.
-     A baby panda can be 4cm – 6cm when it’s born.
-    Cheetahs can weigh up to 36 - 64kg. Their top speed is 114km per hour. WOW!

-     A newborn red kangaroo is 2cm long, the size of a jellybean.
